Virtual Tour
Let's look at a typical Sunday at Crossroads!
Meet Chris and his family as they make their first visit to Crossroads Community Church.
Chris heard about a new church that is meeting at Newport Cinema 4. Chris' wife told him that this church is different. "Yeah, right", he says. "I've heard that before". But Chris decides to go anyway - things aren't so good at work, his family is not as close as he would like it, and well, it's Sunday....
Chris wakes up late Sunday morning. "Where's my suit? I can't find my suit!". Chris' wife tells him to calm down. "Just wear these jeans", she says. Chris looks at her stunned. "Jeans...at church...?" She smiles and says, "I told you this church was different".
Chris and his family pull into the parking lot of Newport Cinema 4. He sees a lot of other families and people his age. When they get to the front door, a friendly person meets them and tells them they are glad to see them at church. Chris notices that they are dressed casual, too. And their smile....it seemed real....like they were really glad he was here.
Once inside, another friendly person offers Chris some coffee while his wife checks out the children's programs offered at Crossroads. "They have the 'Kidstuf' family program at 10:15 that we can all attend together. And they offer PowerUp! at either 9:00 or 11:15 for the kids while we go to either worship service. They also have Discovery Street Nursery during all worship services so that we can relax and enjoy the music and message." Chris replies, "OK, jeans, coffee, and great programs for my kids during church....maybe they are a little different."
Chris picks a seat in the back of the theater and settles in. "At least the seats are comfortable. Uh oh, I brought my coffee in the theater. I bet they will get mad." "Chris, it's all right. They don't mind", his wife responds. The music starts and Chris really enjoys it. "This sounds like the stuff I listen to on the radio....but they are singing about God. I didn't know church could be like this!" Chris' wife smiles.
After the music, Pastor Rick gives a message. Chris whispers to his wife, "He doesn't look like a Pastor. He's dressed casual, too. And he teaches from the Bible in ways I can understand." At the end of the message, Pastor Rick tells everyone that God loves them and wants to live with them forever in Heaven. And to do that, you need to accept God's gift of Jesus as our sacrifice for sins. This makes sense to Chris. It never had before. But it does now. He bows his head and asks Jesus to forgive him and accepts Him as His Savior.
He whispers to his wife what he has just done. She breaks down in tears. "I've been praying for this for ten years!" she says. Chris smiles and says, "Let's start over. And let's come back next Sunday."
Stories like this happen every week at Crossroads! Why? Here's what we believe: Church should be the most exciting place in the entire community! The people that attend Crossroads realize that "It's Not About Us!" It's all about loving God and it's all about loving others. We invite you to check out Crossroads one time. Why? No matter where you are at, where you have been, or what you think about church, or God, one thing is true: God loves you. He's crazy about you. If He had a refrigerator in Heaven, your picture would be on it. So come to Crossroads just as you are. Give God a chance! You’ll never be the same. See you Sunday...
